Painting with Galkyds

Galkyds are a great way to build up a painting. You can thin out layers of colour, which dry fast but don’t hurt the painting with the gloss that you would get with a straight up oil, while offering more strength than a solvent.  I used a Cadmium red as an under coat, a paint that should always go on the bottom because of how opaque it is. Transparent colours go on top, and allow colours like cadmium to poke through in places.

The painting is called Mighty Hector, which represents power and gentleness. Oil on canvas 10′ x 12′. Original available for purchase.
